Lighting a dark rental without an electrician

Most rentals come with one overhead fixture and cool-white bulbs. Three layers fix it: warmer bulbs, light at eye level, and a glow at floor or shelf height.

Guide · Closet & entry

Closet and entryway storage for renters

Reach-in closets waste the space above the shelf and on the back of the door. Entry walls need hooks that come off clean.

FAQ

Will adhesive products really come off clean?

Most damage-free strips remove cleanly from smooth, painted walls when you pull the tab straight down slowly. Textured walls, fresh paint (under 7 days) and wallpaper are the common exceptions. Test one in a closet first.

Do I need my landlord's permission?

Everything we feature avoids drilling, but your lease is what counts. If it bans adhesive on walls, stick to freestanding and tension picks.

How do you choose products?
